Top Ten Tuesday: Things That Make Me Pick Up A Book
I’m going to go mostly with what causes me to pick up a book I’ve borrowed from the library, not so much with what causes me to choose what book to add to my hundreds of titles long (I’ll have a better estimate eventually, I don’t think it’s 1000, but I might be wrong) TBR list or what causes me to choose which books off my TBR list.
- To get and stay off the web
- Comfort (escapism, avoidance)
- I know I will likely enjoy it (I’ve read other books by the same author)
- Curiosity
- Procrastination
- Contrariness (avoiding other books I think I *should* be reading)
- Determination (those books I *should* be reading)
- To learn/stay motivated
- Because I’ve exhausted my other book options
- Because I fell for the hype

Escapism is a great reason to read. We all need time to relax at least occasionally.

Yes, I try to always have some books on hand that are easy escapes, last year it was re-reads and Agatha Christie mysteries, this year thus far it’s Georgette Heyer novels and possibly going to be M.M. Kaye mysteries since I enjoyed Death in Cyprus.

Comfort and Hype are ones I have to agree with. Reading is like an escape for me so I love it when we are taken on a journey to magical worlds, kingdoms and different planets while fighting the ultimate good vs. evil battle, etc. I will admit I do fall for the hype especially if my favorite bloggers and book tubers review it positively. This is a great list btw! Thank you for sharing 🙂

Comfort/escape is probably my top reason, at least recently . . . hype my lowest, I’m very picky.
